Dear Administrator,
Please send this to each of your World Language teachers.
Spring Lake High School World Language teachers are giving a two-day conference on Adapting to the Trimester with TPRS. TPRS is short for Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling. The methodology is gaining in popularity nation-wide and can be utilized at every level. The focus of the in-service will be for middle school and high school teachers.
On the first day, participants will learn about the research that supports TPRS, see a demonstration using the method, and learn about the 5-day lesson plan. On the second day, teaching within the trimester, teaching in upper levels and advanced techniques will be covered. This two day seminar is designed for teachers who are struggling with the idea of adapting to the trimester, and for the novice and experienced TPRS teacher.
Spring Lake has been an all-TPRS school within the trimester schedule since 2000. Our programs have thrived in the trimester schedule. Nationally, 33% of American students study a second language and less than 5% remain in level four language courses. At Spring Lake High School, 86% of the student body takes a second language and 18-20% of those students remain in upper level courses.
The Spring Lake World Languages Department would like to invite interested foreign language instructors to attend this two-day seminar on Adapting to the Trimester with TPRS on June 18-19, 2009.
Thank you very much for your interest.
