Excessive Absence

On a student's eighth (8th) absence, the student will be required to achieve at least a C+ on the final exam to have his/her grade calculated for the term. If the student does not attain a C+ grade on the exam, the student will receive no credit for the course. Absences not calculated in the twelve (12) absence procedure include:

A. Suspensions imposed by a school administrator.
B. School-related absences.
C. Absences due to a death in the immediate family.

These three types of absences do not count as either excused or unexcused absences in determining whether a student will lose credit in a class for excessive absenteeism. The assistant principal will make these determinations on students' credit.

** This puts the focus on the student to perform. The state also uses this to determine testing out credit. 68% of the students were able to get the credit by getting a C+ on the final exam. It is important to note that we then calculated their grade so a C+ is not the grade they receive but the standard on the final to show they have a satisfactory grasp of the content.

ATTENDANCE INCENTIVE—THIRD TERM SENIORS ONLY

Seniors with a grade of B- and four (4) or less absences for the spring term will not be required to take the final exam. School-related absences and absences due to a death in the immediate family will not be counted in this total and are not calculated in this exam exemption. A senior who does not have to take the exam may do so to try to better his/her grade. It will not be averaged if it does not help the grade. The assistant principal will make the determination on any student in question.
